General ProgramsOur typical program consists of an assortment of styles and genres of music all performed with acoustic instruments.
Rockin’ n’ Rollin’ in the 50’s
It will bring you back to the days of “Blackboard Jungle”, sock hops, and Top 40 Radio. Songs by Bill Haley, Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and others will be presented in an unplugged setting. If you couldn’t understand the words then, you will now!
If you are too young to remember these times, you’ll get a glimpse into the past and hear some of the songs that ushered in the dawn of Rock & Roll music. (Sometimes we hand out a Rock & Roll Trivia Quiz at the end of our program.)
Songs of Hope and Inspiration
This program is self explanatory. We intersperse Old Time Gospel songs with secular songs that inspire the human spirit.
Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s
This program highlights the different types of music that influenced Don throughout his growing-up in the Chicagoland area. We’ll take you from the pop music of the day as heard on radio and TV, to country music that emanated from WJJD and found a home on his grandmother’s radio. The program also touches on the birth of Rock & Roll, the Folk revival of the 60’s, Bluegrass, and later country music.
The Folk Revival of the 60’s
Are you old enough to remember tie-dyed shirts, bell bottoms, peace signs and the TV show “Hootenanny”? We will perform songs from the repertoire of the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and others. This program is sure to get the audience singing along. It’s a hoot!
